The Belize Zoo, a zoo even animal lovers can love.
After going on safari in Africa last year, I swore I would never visit another zoo. Seeing how content and at home elephants, lions zebras and all the animals were in their natural environment, it seemed cruel and wrong to cage them up for our entertainment. I had no intention of visiting the zoo here…

This is new to me, so not sure if I’m breaking any blogging rules with my third post today, but wanted to share some of the many photographs I took of the beautiful bird species that live here around the lagoon at Crooked tree. This photo wasn’t taken at a zoo, but from our boat,…

Good morning on a cloudy and chilly morning at the Bird’s Eye View Lodge in Crooked Tree Belize. Looks like all that frigid weather they are having up north has made it’s way down here. We have a northerly wind which brought in some cooler temperature. Must have dipped into the 60’s this morning and…

Had some free time this morning, and the internet was working, so wanted to share some photos of this beautiful and unique bird, the snail kite. I took them on our early morning boat ride on Monday morning on the Crooked Tree Lagoon. The hawk feeds exclusively off of apple snails. The photo below shows…

Off to the airport shortly, and not looking forward to heading back to the record breaking cold of the north. Even filtered down here to the tropics. Took my last hike through this quaint little village, which I have come to know, and love. Took a little detour along the Stiles Thomas Trail, which runs…

I enjoyed the beauty of the tropics this past week during my visit to Belize and, will admit, I wasn’t looking forward to returning to the record breaking cold in my hometown in Northeastern Pennsylvania. I was planning to just do some walking in town today since I had a lot of unpacking and chores…

Was a lot milder today in Northeastern Pennsylvania but still a lot of snow cover on the ground. We got another three inches yesterday and there were some higher drifts making walking anywhere in the woods very difficult. I really get cabin fever this time of year since I can’t just roam where ever feel…

Lamanai, Belize getting there, a wonderful drive and boat ride up the New River. February 15 2015.
Can’t believe it’s already a week since I visited the Mayan ruins at Lamanai. Couldn’t upload a lot of photos in Belize so wanted to share them, and a little bit of my adventure to this ancient site. Lamanai means “submerged crocodile’ in Mayan and an appropriate name for this site located on a lagoon…

I am very fortunate to be able to come home from work and watch the many critters who visit my yard for some corn or bird seed. In the Summer it is mainly the various species of birds at he feeder, a few squirrels, turkeys, rabbits or the annoying bear. Not many deer visit in…

“To bravely go where no man has gone before……” Godspeed Leonard.
Reflecting tonight how I much I am affected by the death of someone who I never knew in real life, but who had such a great influence on me. I was always a sci fi fan and I loved Star Trek. I could still describe all 79 episodes.(The City on the Edge of Forever is…
