Even In The Sweltering Heat Of August, The Beauty Of Nature Still Surrounds Us.
It has been hazy, hot and humid here in Northeastern Pennsylvania these past few weeks, more so than usual, and the wildlife, like the humans aren’t as active.
Well this human decided to take a hike in the PPL Riverlands on Thursday afternoon. The heat was oppressive, with temperatures hovering in the mid 90’s.
It wasn’t like Spring or early Summer when the birds, frogs, turtles, squirrels, chipmunks and other critters are seen everywhere. But there was still a lot of beauty out there, if you could stand the heat and humidity, and keep your eyes peeled.
There were plenty of dragonflies darting along Lake Took-A-While and the adjoining canal. I didn’t have the patience to stand in the heat to photograph them but they were there.
And there was an abundance of these moths, enjoying the few plants flowering this late in the Summer.
There are only a few flowers in bloom now, including the ragweeds and the delicate touch-me-nots or jewelweed.
And there were some bees finding the flowers still blooming.
Many of the plants are now producing seeds and fruit including these currants.
It was hot, but that didn’t stop the natural world from producing a beautiful display, if you brave the heat and stop and take a look. It’s another hot one here today, but I hope to find something to do outside in the heat. The days are getting shorter so got to take advantage of every day of this wonderful time of year. Here is a link to some more photographs from my hike.https://keepyoureyespeeled.net/photographs-page-2/nggallery/photographs-page-two-blog/PPL-Riverlands-August-11-2016
“Life is your art. An open, aware heart is your camera. A oneness with your world is your film. Your bright eyes and easy smile is your museum.”
