June Days: Dragonflies And Daisies.
All Winter long I look forward to Spring. I love the re-awakening of Nature every year. March, April and May are beautiful months. But June has always been my favorite. And it’s not just because it’s the month I celebrate my birthday.
I love the long days and the high angle of the sun in the sky. I also like the fresh greenness of the new leaves on the plants and trees and the many flowers that start to bloom.
I have been walking out near some ponds and wetlands after work these past two days and took my macro lens along to capture, up close, some of June’s beauty. And it didn’t talk long. Even the common hawkweed looks exotic and beauty went looked at through the macro lens.
I found these goblets which, in a few months will grow into wild grapes.
The comfrey is in full bloom now but it is alarming that there are so few bees pollinating these flowers. In the past these flowers were covered with bees. Not this year. Sad.
I was glad to see a lot of dragonflies hovering about the ponds and wetlands. I love watching these ancient insects.
The dragonfly spends a portion of it’s life in the water as a nymph. When they mature they crawl out of the water and emerge from their old skin as a dragonfly. I found this empty shell of a dragonfly nymph.
I came across this spider, one I have never seen before.
And I saw a few of these moths feeding on the wild rose and blackberry blossoms.
And I spotted this little fellow, a toad, on the ground.
So much to see in June, but one of my favorite sights is the first daisy. I have loved these flowers since we sang about them when i was in the first grade. it seems just like yesterday.
In my opinion, nothing shouts “Summer is coming” as the appearance of these delightful flowers. Here is a link to more photographs of some daisies I saw on my walks. https://keepyoureyespeeled.net/photographs-page-2/nggallery/photographs-page-two-blog/macro-walk-daisies-june-2016
I could spend my entire day outdoors this time of year, admiring all of the beauty that surrounds us, from the birds, trees, flowers and even the simplest newly sprouted leaves.
