Lamanai Mayan Ruins, an awesome day in Belize.
Internet is slow again so not going to get any photos up tonight. Sure wish I could, I visited the Mayan ruins at Lamanai, located in a lagoon off of the New River, and they were spectacular. Set in a jungle, it was hard to imagine this was once a thriving city until you see the massive ruins of the structures they left behind. It was breadth taking and though producing.
Getting there was an adventure too, taking the hour boat ride up the New River seeing spider monkeys, crocodiles, many species of birds and Mennonite’s, yep the folks who ride on horse and buggies. Pretty cool. Shared the boat with some new friends from California and Canada staying here at the Lodge, and a group form a Ministry Group from Pennsylvania. What a coincidence. It was a great group of folks to share the beautiful boat ride and the ancient ruins. with. And after the day at the ruins visited a sugar cane mill and toured the city of Orange Walk. It was a good day.
So much to tell, and show, but it was a long day and a 6:30 a.m boat trip on the Belize River tomorrow. Will probably not get any more photos up from my adventures today. Will try and edit the photos from today. Here is a link to my sunrise walk in Crooked Tree this morning. https://flic.kr/s/aHsk4Zp4pF It was a good day in Belize. Glad I stumbled into this country.
Interesting that there are a diverse group in a place like Belize.very cool.
