Trinidad And Tobago Day Seven: Grande Riviere: An Afternoon And Evening In A Tropical Paradise
Sorry it’s been awhile since I have been able to finish my blog posts on my trip to Trinidad and Tobago. I have been enjoying the Spring here in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Well back to my first full day at the remote tropical village of Grande Riviere. I had a busy morning hiking the surrounding forest and beaches in this sleepy village. After a nice lunch at the Mt. Plaisir Estate Hotel I spent some enjoying the view of the ocean from the hotel dining room. I edited some photographs while I listened to the roar of the waves as they crashed on the beach.
It reminded me of so many old movies where an American tourist would have some sort of adventure on a tropical island. The decor of the hotel added to this feeling.
I really did feel like I was at a hotel where Humphrey Bogart could walk in and have a drink at the bar.
I couldn’t resist the stunning beauty of the beach and had to talk another walk along the shore under the intense afternoon sun.
Once again I had the beach all to myself.
And once again I felt like I was walking into a movie scene.
As I walked along the refreshingly cool waters of the ocean I saw an osprey flying overhead.
I watched as it dived into the ocean in an attempt to catch a fish.
It splashed into the water but came up without a fish. I am sure it would be more successful on another try.
It was hot under the tropical sun so I soon returned to my room to enjoy the air conditioning and continue to edit some photographs. Here is a link to a gallery with some more photographs from my hike. Trinidad and Tobago Day Seven Afternoon beach hike April 30 2019.
I was still tired from my long morning hike but i could never spend too much time in a hotel room in such a beautiful place. So, around 4 p.m. I left my room and hotel for another walk in the village.
I returned to the only main street in Grande Riviere and this time headed west on the road that left the village, passing one of the few restaurants in the village.
The road climbed a hill overlooking the beach and I walked past the colorful and well-maintained homes of the residents of the village.
I saw a pair of southern lapwings along the way.
The road continued upward and I was treated to some spectacular views of the beach below.
I had to watch my footing as I tried to get a better look at the beach since there were very steep cliffs along the road.
I walked up to the cell tower at the high point of the hill.
I was going to continue on but I saw some dark clouds moving in over the mountains. I decided to walk back as the clouds moved closer.
I was almost back at the hotel when the clouds opened up and a warm tropical rain began to fall. I took cover under a roof and a house that was under construction and waited out the storm. It only lasted for about 15 minutes and soon the sun reappeared. However just as I reached my hotel another storm approached with another downpour. It was getting dark now and I showered, changed and enjoyed another nice meal. I was in bed early again. I set the alarm for 5;30. I hoped to see some more leatherback turtles on the beach in the morning. Here is a link to a gallery with some more photographs from my evening hike.
